Global was established in January 2005 by Dave and Shelley Shore, out of a passion to bring success to the city. Global quickly became known for its youth, children’s and community provision across York, and the momentum of these things continues.
Working in the heart of communities and in local schools, Global provide activities to help reduce levels of crime and antisocial behaviour. Their extended schools programmes of lunch time and after hours activities are enjoyed by a breadth of young people, in particular engaging disaffected individuals.
Following on from this, Global has developed innovative community projects and men’s and women’s programmes. The positive impact of these projects and programs results in stronger individuals, families and communities.
Global began with just 40 people. Only four years down the line, it is an organisation of more than 400 people, with 11 staff members and 17 full time volunteers, based in 2 locations; York and Lancashire. Today Global works with approximately 2000 people each week, in schools, communities and many other settings.
In October 2007, a second site and conference centre were acquired in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. They are now are establishing ongoing work with children, youth and all kinds of community groups, both centre based and community based.
Global is committed to excellence and collaboration. We have partnered with numerous organisations including Asda, CPP, Lancashire Police, City of York Council, NHS, North Yorkshire Police, Hilton Hotels, Abundant Life Church Bradford, Livesmart@Home, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS, York Children’s Trust, Hope City Church Sheffield and primary and secondary schools throughout Lancashire and North Yorkshire.
The aim of Global is to be a resource to the city, helping those in need, and seeing people get the most out of life. It defines itself as three things - a faith based organisation, a charity, and a Christian church.
